FERGUSON, Mo. — Renita Lamkin, a graduate of Payne Theological Seminary, was struck by a rubber bullet while protesting the fatal shooting of unarmed teen Michael Brown in Ferguson, M0.
Lamkin graduated from Payne in May and is working in Ferguson. She said she was in a crowd of protestors trying to help keep the peace between police and several citizens when officers opened fire. She was struck by a rubber bullet in the stomach.
“I’m okay and it was only a flesh wound,” Lamkin said. “But I wanted the young people to know that this is a serious situation and they have to be careful and follow instructions when protesting.”
Pictures of Lamkin’s injuries have been circulating on the internet, as emotions continue to run high in Ferguson.
“Right now there is a feeling that we are all working together to seek the truth and justice,” Lamkin said.
