XENIA — The Greene County chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society invites the public to hear a presentation about “Brighter Sun,” a novel about the historical accounts of slaves who lived in Greene County. The presentation will be at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, June 7 at the Carriage House Museum at 74 W. Church Street.

“Brighter Sun” was published in 1974 by Greene Berry Buster about his enslaved family’s lives in Wayne County, Ky.; Boyle County, Ky.; and Greene County. According to the society, much of the novel is not accurate history. In his presentation entitled “Extracting Fact from Fiction: Finding the family of Garret Buster in his grandson’s historical novel,” Mike Denis will examine the facts found in the novel.

According to the society, the facts extracted from the story are “a compelling story of a rise from slavery to freedom and beyond.”

The event is free to attend. Those interested in the presentation can contact Cathy Leininger for more information at 937-429-4519.
