BEAVERCREEK — Greene County Parks & Trails will turn participants into a bird-feeding mannequin from 1:30-3 p.m. Feb. 4, 18 and 25, at the Narrows Reserve Nature Center, 2575 Indian Ripple Road.

With an oversize coat, a wide brim hat and some bird seed, naturalists will attempt to have the birds feed right out of your hand.

The bird-feeding “dummy” is staged several weeks before the program in order for birds to become accustomed to the form as a source of food. When program participants put on similar clothing and have bird seed placed upon them, the birds are used to coming in and feeding off the “feeder.”

“Participants of all ages loved this event last year,” said GCP&T Chief Naturalist Cris Barnett. “It’s pretty magical when you feel that first bird land on you and experience such a close, personal encounter.”

Cost is $5 per person with a maximum of ten minutes.

Bearing an unlikely resemblance to the bird-feeding “dummy,” GCP&T Staff Naturalist Ashlee Schmitt shows the clothes that participants would be provided so that they resemble the bird-feeding dummy.
