BEAVERCREEK — The Beavercreek Beavers girls basketball team advanced their record Wednesday night to 7-2 with a 68-42 win over the West Carrollton Pirates.

The Beavers, who have lost to rivals Springboro and Wilmington this season have been struggling with their lack of shots each game, but have still maintained a third-place position in the Greater Western Ohio Conference’s Central Division.

Aubrey Zimmerman who led the team with 12 points in the win said, “I thought we played really good. After the first couple minutes, we really picked it up offensively and defensively. We knew we had to win, so I’m glad we could get it and go 7-2 and it was really a team win, everyone got to contribute.”

Zimmerman who is averaging 9.5 points per game and a 30.6 three-point percentage, is now ranked 12th in the GWOC Central for scoring and sixth in the entire GWOC for rebounds.

Coach Ed Zink said the girls, “overall played very well.”

Zink said that despite the “different matchups” they were using they “could have played better defensively in the second half.”

West Carrollton finished with a 2-19 record last season. The Pirates who fall to 1-7 after the loss to Beavercreek, have shown a drastic change in body language compared to last year. Needless to say, they want to win.

After the game, Pirates coach Scott Davis and the rest of the team were already on the team bus and couldn’t be reached for comment.

Braelyn Bean, sophomore power forward for the Beavers, recorded three points in Wednesday’s win. She said that, based on this season, the Beavers have “been doing pretty well this year considering we are such a young team, but we’ve had a lot of help from our seniors and Natalie Knight.”

Beavercreek will now go on a four-game away game streak against Northmont, Fairborn, Alter and Fairmont, before returning home to face Springfield on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m., Jan. 8.
