FAIRBORN — The Fraternal Order of Eagles are asking the community to help a young mother in her battle with breast cancer as they gather for a bluegrass benefit Sunday.

Doors will open at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 24 for the “Benefit for Crystal Colaric” at the Fairborn Eagle’s club, 509 Sports St. Bands will start playing at 12:30 p.m.

A $5 donation will be collected at the door for Fairborn native and Xenia resident Colaric and her family, including her three children ages 5, 8 and 11.

“Please come help this young lady in her fight with cancer, by helping ease some of the financial issues this has caused her and her family,” said friend and Eagles member Debb Wilder.

Colaric was 31-years-old when she was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma. She had a double mastectomy on Jan. 20, 2014, to remove and prevent the spread of the breast cancer. She is now 32 and recently completed her second round of chemotherapy.

“Come enjoy some good music and help this family at the same time,” Wilder said.

Bands performing at Sunday’s bluegrass benefit are Peaceful Mountain, Evan Lanier and The Bluegrass Express, Laurel Mountain, Mad River Railroad, and Cross Country Band. There will also be a 50/50 drawing, matchbook table prizes and raffles to support Colaric.

Her family has also created a fundraiser on GiveForward.com with a goal of $5,000 to help with the medical expenses. As of Friday afternoon, they had reached roughly 22 percent with 41 days left to collect donations.

On Aug. 7, Colaric posted, “I had my last chemo treatment on Tuesday, Aug. 5th! I went today to my plastic surgeon for the first time since June and we are gonna get right back on schedule. Reconstruction surgery soon to come! Scans & testing wont happen until 2-3 months from now but I continue to have faith that I AM & WILL remain cancer free!!! Thank you to everyone for the support, love, & understanding! I will be forever thankful! I am BLESSED in so many ways! God is good!”

Donations can be made to Crystal Colaric’s Breast Cancer Fund online at www.giveforward.com/fundraiser/fvr4/crystal-colaric-s-breast-cancer-fund.
