FAIRBORN — The Ohio State University Alumni Club of Greene County sponsored its 14th Annual Student Send Off on Aug. 3. All Greene County high school graduates in the Class of 2014 who will be entering OSU as first year students this fall were invited. The picnic event was held at Community Park East in Fairborn and was planned to give the incoming students and their parents the opportunity to meet each other and get their questions answered by a panel of current OSU students.

John Balmer and John Feltz welcomed everyone. Spirited Buckeye activities included appearances from special guests: Larry Lokai of Urbana — an alum who appears at all OSU football games as the Buckeye Man — led the group in OSU cheers and presented necklaces of buckeyes to each of the new students. Lokai gives away thousands of buckeyes each year and makes the buckeye necklaces himself. Dennis Singleton of Huber Heights who is a Jim Tressel look alike assisted Lokai in conducting a Buckeye trivia game.

Entering OSU first year students who attended this year’s Student Send Off included: Bellbrook High School graduates - Rebecca Elting, Shelby Powers; Xenia High School - Rachel McClellan, Corey Scott, Sarah Young; Beavercreek High School - Duncan Titus, Sophia Veneziano and Carroll High School graduate - Michael Chu.

Scholarship Chairperson Christi Guillmen conducted a question and answer session. Current OSU students who returned to answer questions and offer advice as upper-class students and/or assist in the welcoming activities were: Michael Ringle (2010 graduate of Beavercreek HS); Natasha Werts (2013 graduate of Bellbrook HS); Kathryn Kaltenmark (2013 graduate of Beavercreek HS).

Area alumni who helped sponsor the send off and furnished a picnic lunch included the club officers, board reps, and other interested Buckeye supporters of Greene County.
