FAIRBORN — Mark calendars for the third annual “Stand Up For Kidz” adult comedy benefit for Michael’s House Child Advocacy Center. It is set for Wednesday, April 23, at Wiley’s Comedy Club in Dayton’s historic Oregon District.
Doors will open at 6:45 p.m. and the show will begin at 7:30 p.m.
“We loved our original venue at the Beavercreek Golf Club, but we just couldn’t pass up an opportunity to be at Wiley’s, the oldest comedy club in Ohio,” said show organizer Jack Wilson of Fairborn.
Wiley’s owner Rob Haney was the featured comic at the last “Stand Up for Kidz” benefit.
“I was impressed by Michael’s House and the vital services they provide, so I asked how Wiley’s could help,” he said.
It turns out that Haney’s timing couldn’t have been better.
“We wanted to move the comedy show to April to mark National Child Abuse Prevention Month,” said Michael’s House Executive Director Jeannette Adkins. “We knew this would add pressure to organizers since the 2013 show was just held in October. Having an established comedy venue like Wiley’s partner with us was an ideal solution and we are so grateful.”
Wiley’s also helped to secure a headliner for the 2014 show.
“I am thrilled to announce that nationally-touring comic Tim Cavanagh will be featured,” Wilson said. “Tim is an amazing talent who is scheduled to play the weekend shows at Wiley’s and generously agreed to come in early for the Michael’s House benefit.”
Cavanagh’s national credits include appearances on ABC-TV, Comedy Central, Showtime, and WGN America. He can be heard regularly on the nationally syndicated “Bob & Tom” radio show, where he has been a featured contributor for over a decade. His funny songs have been showcased on Sirius XM radio, the “Dr. Demento” radio show, and BBC Radio 4.
Other comics scheduled to perform include Wilson, Haney, Joanne Augenstein, Tracy Cooper and comic/magician Carl Day. WHIO-radio personality and “Voice of the Flyers” Larry Hansgen will serve as the evening’s emcee.
Show tickets are $20 each, with all proceeds going to Michael’s House. Tickets can be purchased at Skyway Cleaners on Kauffman Avenue in Fairborn or by calling Wiley’s at 224-JOKE (5653). There will be cash bar and food service.
