JAMESTOWN — Sodexo School Services and Greeneview Local Schools recently held the Second Annual Future Chef Cook-Off competition on March 6.
This competition was for fifth and sixth grade middle school students. The students entered the contest by submitting their “Favorite Healthy Sandwich” recipe card, complete with ingredients and preparation method.
Those cards were judged by a panel of food service and other school employees and six finalists were chosen to compete in the cook-off. The six finalists were as follows: Ana Clark, Brianna Hardy, Spencer Jones, Mason Kibble, Reagan McIntire, and Molly Rubio.
The students came eager to prepare their healthy sandwich, adorned in Chef Coats and Chef Hats. Each student prepared their sandwich, decorated their table area, and presented it to the four judges for the final judging.
Judges were Shanon Benton, Isaac Seevers, Beverly Walkden, and Robert Wright. The final judging was based on the following categories: health-conscious foods, kid-friendly preparation, fun foods, judge’s choice, and best table presentation. The students were given a rating of 1-5 and the student with the most overall points won.
The winner for the 2014 Future Chef Competition was Ana Clark with a winning recipe of Eggplant Parmesan Sandwich. Ana received a large basket filled with cooking utensils, a Chef Remmi cookbook, and of course a first place medal.
Future Chef is a Sodexo competition that enables the students to have a hands on cooking experience along with teaching how to eat healthy and have fun doing it.
