XENIA — A special holiday concert will bring together a chorus of 30 men and women with developmental disabilities.

The performers are people from the Greene County area who are active in Toward Independence’s Creative Community Connections habilitation program with autism, Down syndrome, cerebral palsy and other hurdles to overcome.

The concert will include a variety of songs and dances, from festive and fun to heartwarming and meaningful. The admission is free, but donations would be appreciated.

The program will be held at 6 p.m. Wednesday, Dec. 18 at Faith Community United Methodist Church, 100 Country Club Drive, in Xenia.

Toward Independence (TI) is nonprofit which has been providing residential services to people with intellectual disabilities for 38 years with a mission of assisting individuals with developmental disabilities to live the fullest life possible. TI provides services in Greene, Montgomery, and Hamilton counties.

TI also runs a habilitation program, Creative Community Connections (CCC), founded in 2007. CCC’s program offerings include a full-time adult day support component, recreation and leisure opportunities, and educational classes. The adult day support component includes On the Move (a partnership with the Fairborn YMCA), Creative Expressions (a Xenia-based creative arts, skills, and expression program), and Getting Out Group (a group that gathers together weekly to go on various educational and recreational field trips). CCC strives to help each participant find their personal “fit” through activities that meet their interests.
