BEAVERCREEK — Vivian Van Ausdal born on April 23, 1914 in Arcanum was the oldest of four daughters. She reminds many of the “Energizer Bunny” as she keeps going and going and going even at 100 years young. She graduated in 1932 from Arcanum High School and continued her studies at Miami University earning a degree in Religious Studies.

She taught for over a year at a school in Ansonia until she married Gerry Van Ausdal. She then resigned from that position as was customary in those days. During World War II she often worked as a substitute teacher.

Gerry and Vivian raised four sons, Karl, Ray, Paul and Glenn. They moved to Beavercreek in 1954 where she still lives today. She taught English in the Beavercreek Schools for many years before retiring in 1977 to care for her ailing husband who succumbed to leukemia.

She has been a member of Hawker United Church of Christ in Beavercreek since 1955. She remains “a constant presence of inspiration to all,” said church officials.

She served as Consistory President in 1982, Parliamentarian, a Choir member until just this year and continues to teach Adult Bible Study on Sunday mornings. She also has been playing piano at events held at Trinity Home. The chuch honored Vivian with a special reception and card shower. Her family also held a special celebration in honor of her 100th birthday.

Vivian has been and remains active in the Beavercreek community as well as Greene County wide. To name a few she served as an election pole worker for many years, was on the Beavercreek Charter Commission, Greene County Board of Education for 12 years which included 4 years as President, a member of the Friends of the Library serving 16 years on the Greene County Library Board, founding member of the Board of Greene County Public Library Foundation, President of the Ohio Friends of the Library and on the Ohio Library Foundation Board, Beavercreek Historical Society, Beavercreek Women’s League and Greene County Retired Teachers.
