YELLOW SPRINGS — Public Radio station WYSO 91.3 FM and the Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse announce the launch of Zombie High School, a six-part radio drama podcast.

Written by Corrie Van Ausdal, Luke Dennis, Sam Butler and Jeremiah Scott, Zombie High School is the story of a ragtag group of teenagers who are thrown together by fate when their town is overtaken by a fast-moving zombie apocalypse while they are in after-school detention.

Van Ausdal-directed student and community-based actors, and WYSO Community Voices producer Tom Amrhein served as the podcast’s primary producer with overall production supervision from WYSO’s Juliet Fromholt. Zombie High School features original music and scoring from Antioch College student Tatiana Benally. All of the production’s sound effects were created at the WYSO studios by Amrhein and a team of volunteers.

“This has been a true community effort,” says WYSO Development Director Luke Dennis. “We loved having our studios filled with new faces every weekend, plugging away at this thing. The real stars are the teenagers who acted it and helped produce it. I think they learned a lot, and I know we did, too.”

Zombie High School is part of YS Kids Playhouse’s twenty-second season, “The Hand You’re Dealt,” and is supported by funds from Ohio Arts Council.

“This project has been an amazing new opportunity for YSKP,” says Ara G. Beal, YSKP’s Managing Artistic Director. “Learning how to put together a piece as complex as an original podcast, giving our performers and artists an opportunity to work in a whole new medium, and to have something that will exist beyond the moment of performance is an exciting frontier for us.”
