Local non-profits awarded new grants

DAYTON — Five non-profits from Greene County were among the recipients of a new grant from The Dayton Foundation.

Greene Giving, the Interfaith Hospitality Network of Greene County, Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center, Xenia Area Community Theater and Tecumseh Land Trust all received a portion of the $30,777 given by the foundation as part of its first Greenlight Grants program.

Greenlight Grants is a competitive-funding program for Greater Dayton non-profits seeking quick, small grants for special projects, program expansions, capital improvements or capacity building. Grants are approved to promote efforts in the areas of arts and culture, health, education, human services, philanthropy and other community-building endeavors.

Greene Giving received $2,000 to help label storm drains to encourage residents to protect water supplies by not throwing foreign materials down the drains.

IHN was awarded $3,347 to assist in purchasing commercial-grade laundry appliances for use at the homeless shelter.

The Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center received $3,000 to help expand its garage to house additional wheelchair-accessible buses.

Xenia Area Community Theatre received $1,000 to assist in purchasing an electronic loop for transmitting audio to devices used by individuals with hearing impairments.

Tecumseh Land Trust was awarded $2,000 to help promote a federal tax incentive of donated conservation easements to landowners in key water quality protection areas.

In all there were 14 grants awarded.
