XENIA — Nationally known gardening radio host, author and speaker Mike McGrath is set to offer an educational presentation on composting Saturday, and according to Greene County Parks & Trails, only a few seats remain. McGrath, who hosts “You Bet Your Garden,” a nationally syndicated NPR program, will host the session at 11 a.m. Oct. 3, at the Greene County Media Room, 541 Ledbetter Road, Xenia.

Presented by GCP&T and WYSO-91.3 FM, the seminar will use both wit and humor to explain why compost improves soil structure, provides the perfect amount of food for plants, how it fights plant diseases more effectively than any chemical fungicide and how attendees can make their own.

In addition to hosting the NPR show, McGrath is the garden editor for WTOP News Radio in Washington, D.C., a contributing editor and columnist for Greeneprints Magazine, the former editor-in-chief of Organic Gardening Magazine and is the author of books on tomatoes, compost, seed saving and kitchen gardening.

Tickets can be purchased for $35 in advance or for $50 at the door. For advance tickets, visit wyso.org/afternoon-mike-mcgrath.
