XENIA — United States Daughters of 1812 member Carolyn Hilliard was appointed state chair of the “Correct Use of the Flag of the U.S. and the Flag of the War of 1812” Committee.

As state chair, it will be the Xenia resident’s responsibility to encourage and promote education of the correct use of the flags. She is a charter member of the Scioto Valley Volunteers chapter and serves as its recording secretary.

The USD 1812 Society promotes patriotism, preserving historical documents, national monuments, family histories and traditions. The society honors the heroic deeds of civil, military and naval veterans’ service from 1784 to 1815 inclusive. Eligibility for membership is extended to women age 18 and over who can provide satisfactory proof that they are lineal descendants of an ancestor who, during this period of American history, rendered civil, military or naval service to the U.S., or rendered material aid to the U.S. Army or Navy.
