GCCC seniors to be honored May 23

XENIA — Greene County Career Center’s graduating class of 272 seniors will be honored during a Senior Recognition Ceremony beginning 7 p.m., Tuesday, May 23 at Wright State’s Nutter Center.

So far, 185 seniors have earned scholarships and the class collectively has earned just over $1 million in scholarship money.

Members of the graduating class also received awards and certifications: 20 earned the Distinguished Student Award; 27 earned the President’s Award for Educational Excellence; five earned an Honors Diploma; 173 earned an industry credential or certification and 41 were members of the National Technical Honor Society.

The valedictorian for the class is Joshua Lewis and the salutatorian is Shelby Jordan.

Joshua Lewis from Xenia High School is completing the Electrical Wiring and Motor Controls programs. He currently works at Chapel Electric and plans to enter the IBEW Local 82 apprenticeship program. He is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and earned the Presidential Award for Educational Excellence. He has qualified for a full-tuition scholarship to Wright State University and a Tech Prep scholarship. As a SkillsUSA competitor, he was part of the Teamworks team that won a gold medal at regionals and placed sixth at the state skills competition. Lewis earned OSHA safety certification as well.

Shelby Jordan from Greeneview High School is completing the Welding and Metal Fabrication program. Jordan plans to enter the apprenticeship program through Pipefitters Local 162. She is a member of the National Technical Honor Society and earned the Presidential Award of Educational Excellence and the Distinguished Student Award for her career-technical program. Jordan also earned a Diploma with Honors and is eligible for a partial-tuition scholarship at Wright State University and a Tech Prep scholarship. During her two years at Greene County Career Center, she earned OSHA safety certification and is qualified on six separate welding processes. She is competing in the welding event through SkillsUSA and was a two-time state qualifier.

Both Lewis and Jordan will speak during the ceremony.
