BELLBROOK — Bellbrook Middle School seventh graders received a lesson about fallen power lines and safety.

The Dayton Power & Light presentation highlighted the dangers of hot wires and educating the students how to stay safe around electricity. Students learned to never touch a fallen power line and to keep children and pets far away from a fallen line.

The DP&L demonstration team discussed electric safety and provided demonstrations of the power of electricity including the electric arc flash and cooking a hot dog. This demonstration ties in with the seventh grade science standards of electricity and transfer of energy, according to science teacher Cathy St. Pierre.

Students said they enjoyed this presentation and each left with interesting facts and valuable safety lessons.

One student commented, “I learned how to get out of a car if there are fallen wires,” and another commented, “It was cool to see the hot dog cook from just a regular wire in our house.”
