Annual pancake brunch coming

If 2017 is like the many years before it, close to 300 people will be visiting the senior center at 130 E. Church Street to partake in the wonderful pancake brunch held on the last Sunday of February.

This event, known as the Day of Caring, stretches throughout the Miami Valley to Cincinnati, Kentucky, Indiana and Michigan. It is a day when more than 50 communities come together to remember the homeless and hungry and raise funds for those causes.

The Xenia Adult Recreation and Services Center will be open 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. and will be serving pancakes, Bob Evans sausage, donuts, fruit, orange juice, and coffee. There will be entertainment and door prizes and plenty of fun for the whole family. Children 12 and under and seniors 60 and older pay $4 for a ticket either at the center in advance or at the door, while all others pay $6.

All proceeds from the event at the center go toward the home-delivered meal program. Meals are prepared, packaged and delivered each weekday from the center and go to aging individuals living in Xenia, Xenia Township and Wilberforce who are unable to cook for themselves or go out to a restaurant. By providing this essential need, these individuals are able to remain living in their own homes for as long as possible. Last year, the senior center delivered more than 30,000 meals. Many of those who receive meals are unable to pay for the cost of the meals and no one is turned away for inability to pay. Fundraisers, such as the Day of Caring, are important to the continued success of the program.

The Day of Caring is supported by many sponsors including Bob Evans Farms, which donates the delicious sausage. Joe Mullins from Classic Country Radio co-sponsors the event and community leaders and businesses join in including: Sheriff Gene and Gail Fischer, Marcia and George Whyde, Dr. Marc Holser, Dean’s Plumbing, 3F Coaching, Marlene and Dick Holmes, The Printing Center, Reddy Electric Company, Hospitality Homes for Rehabilitation & Healing, McIlvaine Realtors, Stonecreek Dental Care, and Gordon Food Service.

Don’t miss out on a fun day for a good cause. For more information call 937-376-4353.
