Genealogical Society presents finding Irish Cousins

0

XENIA — Join the Greene County Chapter of the Ohio Genealogical Society for the presentation “Finding my Irish Cousins — in Ireland!” at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 4 at the Xenia Community Library.

Hear long-time genealogist and Greene County Chapter President Helen Steele Lehman tell about tips and techniques for finding Irish ancestors.

In September 2015, Lehman and her two sisters, Mary and Donna, set-out on a trip that had been three years in the planning. Helen knew the name and location of two ancestral villages in County Mayo, Ireland, based on Griffith’s Valuation and Catholic Church records.

Join — virtually — Lehman and her two sisters and come along “for the ride” on the “bucket list” adventure of the Steele sisters. Hear about the planning stage, preparing to visit the homeland of ancestors who came to America during the Civil War, about 1864. Lehman will talk about the people who made it all possible, including Dwight Radford who will be in Greene County in August to share more Irish research techniques with us. Admission is free and open to all. Contact Cathy Leininger at 937-429-4519.
