XENIA — Two new county board members received their member manuals Thursday at the Grene County Board of Commissioners meeting.

Douglas Fannin of Fairborn has joined the Regional Airport Authority Board and Pamela Bottorff of Xenia is becoming a member of the Board of Developmental Disabilities.

Within the last three years, the commissioners have presented each new board member with an employment manual that offers important county information, contacts, criteria and expectations in an effort to provide members with more resources and support.

“We need to make sure that each of our board members understand their responsibilities,” Commissioner Tom Koogler said at the presentation. “We really look for all board members of all boards to step up and understand the level of committment that this board expects.”

The Regional Airport Authority is comprised of seven community members appointed by the Greene County Commissioners for three year terms. These members help decide the course and the future of the Greene County Airport.

Fannin has attended one meeting so far.

“What I’m learning about the airport fascinates me,” he said. “I look forward to participating.”

Koogler commented that he believes the airport is part of the “economic growth and economic engine” of Greene County.

Bottorff is taking over an unexpired term on a different board.

The Board of Developmental Disabilities provides service and assistance for community members of all ages and varying abilities. The board has seven members, five of which are appointed by the commissioners.

Bottorff is retired from the Greene County Health Department and the Xenia Board of Education. She is also the mother of a mentally handicapped son.

“I’m anxious to serve,” Bottorff said. “We’ve always been on the side of receiving services, now I get to see the other side of it, how all the services are developed and coordinated.”

“It’s important to bring that passion and committment to any board,” Koogler replied. “You’re bringing something very important to the table.”
