FAIRBORN — The City of Fairborn will welcome zombies, monsters and creatures from the dark to the community over the weekend.

Well, not quite as literally — but its annual Halloween Festival, highlighting ghoulish family-friendly fun, is slated to take place this weekend.

Beginning 4 p.m. Friday, Main Street will transform from its usual downtown aesthetics to a spooky street with more than 50 vendors, amusement rides, live entertainment, and a parade, as well as a costume contest a few blocks away. Community members have an opportunity to be awarded for their creativity if they wish as costumes will be divided and judged in based on those similar to their own. Individuals can enter costumes for adult, family, pet, scariest, cutest and most original categories in eight age groups.

The parade will begin at 7:30 p.m. at the YMCA on Central Avenue, proceed down Main street and stop at the festival’s main stage, where costumes will be awarded.

But the Halloween festivities don’t stop there — the festival will continue until 10 p.m. on Friday, picking up again from 1-10 p.m. Saturday.

The Fairborn High School Marching Band will get the spooky party started, followed by Irish dancers, an illusionist, a performance by a KISS impersonator, fire dancers, the Three-Piece Suit, returning Fairborn performer Forsaken as well as country rock artist Jenna Snow.

For event times, contact the Fairborn Area Chamber of Commerce at 937-878-3191. Candy collecting will take place at a later time — trick or treating is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Monday, Oct. 31.
