FAIRBORN — The Miami Valley Music Men are “Broadway Bound.”

Well sort of.

The long-time barbershop chorus is actually Fairborn-bound but will feature some popular show tunes during its 31st anniversary show, set for 2 and 7 p.m. Saturday Oct. 22 at Fairborn High School’s auditorium. With roots tracing back to 1950, the chorus consists of approximately 30 singers and has three quartet sub-groups as well — The Daytones, Grand Slam and No Regrets.

At any given event there will be at least 20-25 members exercising their vocal chords in the barbershop style. A love for singing and exciting a crowd keeps the group going.

“The big thing that we all love to do is to see people smile,” President Larry Davis said. “To just enjoy themselves. When we go out, we just try to have fun. Have a good time. We just want to see that come back at us.”

The Miami Valley Music Men have performed at Dayton Dragons and Flyers games, the Kettering Holiday at Home Parade and the holiday event at The Schuster Center in downtown Dayton.

“I can’t think of a thing that we’re not available for,” Davis said. “We try to do what we can where we can as long as our schedule will allow it.”

The Fairborn shows will feature special guest Ars Nova — a group of singers from Miami Valley High School — which will sing “The Lion King’s” “Circle of Life” with the chorus providing background voices.

“That particular show in and of itself is not barbershoppy at all,” Davis said. “That’s going to be a really interesting piece.”

The chorus will also sing “Music of the Night” from “Phantom of the Opera.”

“We did that last year in the show and that was received real well,” Davis said.

There will also be some non-broadway pieces and of course, some patriotic songs sung near the end.

Adult tickets for the show are $12. High school students and children pay $5. Tickets are available by calling 937-985-1720.
