YELLOW SPRINGS — The Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse (YSKP) is presenting its inaugural “Arts for All” performance, as well as “The Farm” later this month at Antioch Amphitheater.

“The Farm” will be YSKP’s 21 original musical, and utilizes masks, puppets, music and innovative props to emphasize farm and land conservation. The performance is sponsored in part by a $10,000 award by the National Endowment for the Arts, and several grants from the Ohio Arts Council. The performance is directed by Yellow Springs Kids Playhouse’s Managing Artistic Director Ara G. Beal, and was written by Joan Sand. The Farm is inspired by Orwell’s Animal Farm and the 1999 auction Whitehall Farm, located outside of Yellow Springs.

Within the performance, audience members watch and see if the wild animals, farm animals and human kids can work together to save their beloved farm from developers. The production is described as “steampunk-styled” and will feature human characters played by puppets, animal characters played by actors, in addition to full-sized bulldozers and tractors made out of recycled materials.
