World War ll vet turns 90

XENIA — Robert K. O’Bryant, born in Cedarville on Sept. 18, 1925 is celebrating his 90th birthday. His family is inviting all friends to participate in a card shower by sending cards and birthday wishes to his home address 653 Country Club Dr., Xenia, Ohio 45385.

O’Bryant is a long-time resident of Greene County, graduating from Ross High School in 1943. Following graduation he joined the United States Navy and served in World War ll and the Korean War as a fire control man. While aboard several different destroyer ships, he was involved in D-day, transporting wounded soldiers to England. He also participated in VE Day and the end of the war VJ Day. O’Bryant then served in the Korean War spending most of his time re-commissioning ships.

He was discharged in 1946 and began working at the Xenia Farmers Exchange for the next 18 years. He then began a 15-year career with the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, retiring in 1977.

O’Bryant was married to Ruthell Oliver of Jamestown for 67 years and had two children, Price O’Bryant of Jamestown and and Brenda Holtzman of Athens; five grandchildren and four great grandchildren.
