XENIA — As the 150th anniversary of the end of the American Civil War comes to an end, the Collins School in Greene County will host a special program regarding slavery and the 13th amendment.

The program, scheduled 2-4 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 20 at 2804 West Enon Road in Xenia Township, will feature actors portraying President Abraham Lincoln, his wife, Mary, Sons of Union Veterans, and Henry “Box” Brown.

The Lincolns will engage the audience in their beliefs about slavery and the role that the passage if the Thirteenth Amendment played in their administration.

Brown will speak about his renowned escape and will have a replica of the box in which he was transported to freedom.

The spirited music of the Xenia Westminster and Memorial United Presbyterian Churches and Civil War bugle selections played by Allen Howey will add another dimension to the event, which is free to the public.

Brown is played by Rory Rennick. The Lincolns are played by Jim Crabtree and Teena Baldridge.

The event is open to anyone in second grade and older, including adults.

Donations toward the program, the historic preservation of Collins School and its educational purposes are gratefully accepted. A shuttle for those parking in the Greene County Career Center parking lots will be available at no cost. To help with seating, attendees are urged to bring a lawn chair.
