Dayton Dragons on TV today through Saturday
DAYTON — Dayton Dragons games today, Friday and Saturday will be televised from Fifth Third Field on WHIO Digital Channel 7.2 (channel 23 and digital channel 372 on most Time Warner Cable systems in the Miami Valley). The Dragons battle the Quad Cities River Bandits at 7 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and take on the Cedar Rapids Kernels at 7 p.m. on Saturday.
Guest commentators for the three nights include Mike Vander Woude, former “Voice of the Dragons” on Thursday; Jeff Reboulet, a 12-year Major League infielder on Friday; and Josh Hall, former pitcher for the Dragons and Cincinnati Reds on Saturday.
Rio Grande hosting softball camps
RIO GRANDE — The University of Rio Grande softball program will conduct a pitching/catching camp on Sunday, July 27, at Rio Softball Park on the URG campus. The camp will run from 1-3 p.m. for players age 7-13 and from 3-5 p.m. for players age 14-18. Cost is $30.
New Rio Grande softball head coach Amber Bowman will direct the camp, while RedStorm players will also be assisting in the instruction. Parents and coaches are welcome to attend any of the sessions to observe and ask questions.
Players MUST have a completed Medical Consent Form, which is available from the Rio softball webpage on the school’s athletic website (www.rioredstorm.com), before being allowed to participate. Softballs will be provided, but players should also bring appropriate gear to the tryout. Both an online registration form and a registration form which can be printed and returned by mail are also available on the website. Checks should be made payable to Amber Bowman and mailed to 218 North College Avenue, P.O. Box 500, Rio Grande, Ohio 45674. Scouts to host play-in playoff game
XENIA — The Xenia Scouts will play host to the Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League’s play-in game, at 4 p.m. Monday, July 28 at Grady’s Field on the Athletes In Action sports complex, according to Scouts General Manager John Henschen.
The game pits the league’s eighth and ninth teams in the league standings against each other to determine who will join the other seven teams in the league playoffs. Through Tuesday’s action, the Grand Lake Mariners are in eighth with a 16-20 record, and the Lexington (Ky.) Hustlers stand ninth (11-22).
Also as of Tuesday, Xenia (20-18) sits fourth in the league standings.
Wright State to hold various summer camps
FAIRBORN — The Wright State Raiders will be holding numerous camps this summer for multiple sports. The summer camps include the following:
Women’s Soccer: There will be one-day camps on July 28 and Aug. 1. Emphasis will be placed on the technical aspects of the game such as dribbling, passing, receiving, striking a ball, finishing and more. For more information, call (937) 775-2771.
