XENIA — After trailing 6-2 in the eighth inning, the Xenia Scouts rallied to defeat the visiting Licking County Settlers 7-6 in 11 innings, in their final regular season contest, Thursday night at Grady’s Field on the Athletes In Action sports complex.
Clayton Brandt, Andrew Carrillo and Jordan Stading led off the Scouts’ bottom half of the 11th with singles. Then, with one out, Tad Sobieszczanski singled to score Brandt with the walk-off winner.
With the win, Xenia finishes the regular season with a 21-19 record. Currently in fourth place in the nine-team Great Lakes Summer Collegiate League standings, the Scouts will now wait to see who they’ll face in the postseason playoffs.
Xenia fans and players alike will be paying attention to a home-and-home series between the Cincinnati Steam and the Hamilton Joes yet to be played this week. With Xenia’s amazing Thursday night win, they trail the third-place Steam by .001 in the league standings.
Scouts fans have the odds in their favor, however. Cincinnati has lost nine of its last 1o games.
