Students earn awards at FCCLA event

XENIA — Xenia’s Shelby Wilges earned a gold medal in the Dining Room Attendant event at the Family, Careers and Community Leaders of America (FCCLA) State Leadership Conference in Columbus on April 25. Wilges is a junior in the Food and Hospitality program.

Four others won silver medals at the competition held at Ohio State University. Junior Jonathan Comperry from Beavercreek and the Food and Hospitality program won silver in the Dining Room Attendant event. Culinary Arts students Senior Debbie Hall from Yellow Springs and junior Greg Borstelmann from Beavercreek competed in the Garde Manger event. Senior Micah Lindsey from Yellow Springs was recognized for her work in the Pastry Arts-Cake category.

Chef Dan Towson teaches the Culinary Arts program while Joanne Powell serves as instructor for Food and Hospitality. Sandy Darby and Paula Trusty are teaching assistants.
