ELKINS, W. VA. — The Cedarville men’s and women’s basketball teams came out on different sides of a pair of close college basketball games, Thursday at the McDonnell Center at Davis & Elkins College.
The Yellow Jackets’ Kayla Linkous converted a pair of 1-and-1 free throws with 3.1 seconds left to play to earn Cedarville a 69-68 win in the women’s game. Linkous finished with 10 points, was a perfect 6-for-6 from the free-throw line and had a team-high seven rebounds.
Raegan Ryan led Cedarville (10-8, 6-2 in the Great Midwest Athletic Conference) with a game-high 21 points, while Kayla Jenerette finished with 20. Deborah Gordon also finished with double-figure scoring with 12 points.
Ashley Bowles led Davis & Elkins College (10-12, 7-3 GMAC) with 14 points.
In the men’s contest, Cedarville outscored D&E 30-25 in the second half, but it wasn’t enough to rally the Jackets from a 7-point halftime deficit. Davis & Elkins eked out a 60-58 win.
Marcus Reineke scored a game-high 19 points, and Jason Cuffee also scored in double figures with 10, for Cedarville (5-14, 3-4 GMAC). Easton Bazzoli and Brian Grant scored eight points each in the loss.
Alex Visiljevic was the only D&E player to score in double figures. He finished with 12 in the win.
