XENIA — Xenia residents are being bombarded with offers to switch energy providers via mail, phone and door-to-door solicitations these days, but many residents say they are confused and uncertain on how to make the right choice.
People often say they are leery of all the solicitations and are concerned about potential hidden gimmicks if they choose and alternative supplier. They unsure on who to trust and where to get credible information.
To help clear up the confusion about energy choice in Ohio, Duke Energy Retail is hosting a free educational program at 11:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. on Jan. 22 at the Xenia Community Library, 76 E. Market St., Xenia, OH 45385. This event is free and open to the entire Xenia community.
“We want to clear up any confusion about this topic and really empower folks to make the choice that’s best for them,” said Duke Energy Retail Manager Kim Vogelgesang. “Only one in three residents in this area are taking advantage of this savings opportunity. This education program will quickly show folks how to stop paying more than they have to for their electricity.”
During the program, Duke Energy Retail will discuss what energy choice is, a step-by-step process – including information from the Public Utilities Commission of Ohio – for choosing an alternate energy supplier, tools available to help residents calculate potential savings, view offers from energy suppliers from across the state, and what to look out for in terms of dishonest sales tactics.
“This program is very beneficial to the community, and it’s just one way we are proving our commitment to helping people make the right choice easy,” Vogelgesang said.
